Master on physics Duong Cong Thanh, Vice Head of the High School Office of Hanoi Department of Training & Education led the delegation.

The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics has been first organized in 2007 in Thailand with the participation of 21 countries. This year is the 9th competition, which attracted students from 44 countries.

Achievements of Hanoi’s students has shown big effort from all members, as this is not a compulsory subject in Vietnam’s education system. As such, most of students do not pay attention to astronomy and astrophysics. Bearing this in mind, these results will be a great motivation for students to look at this field.

In 2016 – the first year Vietnamese students taking part in this Olympiad, Hanoi’s student has won 1 silver medal and 4 consolation prizes. Notably, all 5 students participating in previous Olympiad were also from the Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the gifted.
