The Hanoitimes - The strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan is seeing its finest and most powerful development. The Capital of Hanoi has deployed many solutions to continue attracting investment in all fields, including tourism from the Japanese market.
Japan is Vietnam’s largest ODA provider, second-biggest investor and fourth-largest bilateral trade partner. There are about 1,600 Japanese enterprises operating in Vietnam. The two countries are joining hands in implementing many large-scale infrastructure and energy projects in Vietnam.
Japan is now the top investor in Hanoi, with more than 800 projects worth about US$5.2 billion. Most Japanese enterprises invested in production, such as the Thang Long Industrial Park Project, project of Canon Group; in trade, health care, environment, tourism, such as Aeon Mall Long Bien supermarket which is one of the most modern supermarkets in Hanoi.
Speaking at a seminar on cooperation in investment and tourism promotion between Hanoi and Japan, Director-General for Policy Planning Tetsuo of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Tominaga Tetsuo said that, from 1997 up to now, Japanese companies' investment in Viet Nam has changed dramatically. In the future, the Vietnam-Japan University will supplement human resources, better support for Japanese investors.
He highlights huge potential for Hanoi -Japan cooperation. Japan will be the ideal partner for Hanoi in the fields of hi-tech agriculture, urban railways, supporting industries, human resources development, tourism, high quality medical services, etc.
According to Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Hanoi has strengthened administrative procedures reform. The capital city always creates favorable conditions for businesses in general, Japanese enterprises in particular.
Relating tourism field, cooperation between the two sides also saw rapid development. In 2016, Hanoi received 238 million Japanese visitors and the number of Vietnamese people visiting Japan was around 233 thousand. Japan became the third largest tourist market for Hanoi.
Many Japanese travel companies want to explore the potential of Hanoi tourism, seeking solutions to attract visitors to Japan. The Vietnamese government is also taking all measures to ensure a better environment for tourism, ensuring urban order, thereby ensuring a safe environment for tourists.
Under the framework of the seminar on cooperation in investment and tourism promotion between Hanoi and Japan, representatives from Hanoi’s authorities and Japanese investors signed a Memorandum of Understanding on investment for a commercial centre project; tourism development; and training officers in charge of operating Hanoi’s metro system. On the occasion, representatives of Aeon Mall announced a plan to invest US$ 200 million to build a new trade center in Hanoi.
Strengthen promotion cooperation of investment and tourism between Hanoi and Japan is an opportunity for the two sides to discuss and solve obstacles and create favorable conditions for Japanese enterprises to invest in Vietnam, as well as encouraging Vietnamese people to travel to Japan.
