The Hanoitimes - In 2017, three Vietnam’s major telecom carriers including VNPT, MobiFone and Viettel received the license from the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) to provide 4G services, kicking off the 4G race in Vietnam. However, has its quality pleased users?
At the 4G LTE 2017 international conference jointly held in Hanoi by the Vietnam Internet Association and the International Data Group (IDG) on July 27, MIC representative Tran Tuan Anh said that as of now, 3 Vietnamese carriers have installed a total of approximately 43,000 4G LTE stations nationwide covering about 95% of the population.
According to VNPT plan, this telco will put about 15,000 4G transceiver stations into operation this year, covering all key areas in 63 provinces across the country. Meanwhile, Viettel has launched 4G LTE services nationwide using 4T4R technology last April. At the same time, the carrier already installed 36,000 tranceiver stations covering 95% of the population. Another telco, MobiFone, has currently built 4,500 4G LTE stations. This number is expected to increase up to 30,000 4G stations during the period of 2017 – 2018.
4G is expected to be used extensively in the coming time and help Vietnam complete national programs such as e-government, smart city and smart agriculture.
At the workshop, General Director of IDG in Vietnam and ASEAN Le Thanh Tam released the survey report on customer satisfaction on 4G LTE service in Vietnam. To conduct the survey, IDG distributed 40 thousand samples to roughly 14 thousand people in 8 cities including Hanoi, Hai Phong, BInh Duong, Ho Chi Minh, Dong Nai, Vung Tau, Can Tho and Da Nang.
The survey results showed that there are 3.5 million 4G subscribers nationwide so far. 88% of them live in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city. Students, self-employed people make up 74% of 4G users. 51% of 4G subscribers have income ranging from 5 to 10 million dong. Young people from 20 to 30 years old make up 38% of 4G subscribers.
Viettel has the largest share of 4G users with 52%, while the percentage for MobiFone and VinaPhone is 27% and 21% respectively. With regard to 4G fee , Vinaphone provides the the most expensive service with the fee of 79,000 VND per month, while Viettel and MobiFone has the same fee of 70,000 VND/month.
Survey on customer satisfaction with 4G service is divided into 3 categories. For the income based category, users with income ranging from 3-5 million VND has the highest satisfaction of 55%. While in the category for region, Hanoi has the highest satisfaction of 50.2%.
Also stated in IDG survey, users of 4G service are mainly for entertainment with 68%, in which social networks get largest share, while only 30% of 4G subscribers are using 4G for works.
In term of the quality service of 4G (on the speed or signal strength), 56% users are satisfied with the quality, and the opposite are 7%. 58% users of 4G are pleased with the speed of 4G, and 9% say it needs to be improved.
On the service fee, 17% think it is still expensive, while 81% are displeased with the marketing campaign and the consulting services.
