On June 21, the Embassy of Sweden in Vietnam, the Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnamese Women’s Museum jointly held the announcing and prize awarding ceremony for “Vietnamese Equal Families” photo contest.
The contest was launched in celebration of the International Women’s Day and received the active support of photographers across the country with thousands of submissions.
Through the contest, the Organizing Committee aims to promote equality in families, encourage shared responsibilities among family members, including child care, and housework division, at the same time, strive for a personal career and making positive contributions to society.
According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Thong, who won the first prize with the photo "Sharing at work", family sentiment is a very precious affection for the Vietnamese. The family is the place of departure and also the destination to return.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thong said that as a community project officer, his photo was captured a moment during his business trip to Quang Binh province. "The man in the photo was born and grew up in Le Thuy district. As a child, he was hit by a bomb accident and lost his left leg. He used to feel conflicted about his life situation for a long time. But all these things do not discourage him, he is still industrious and hard working. Then the God presents him with his current wife. They share all the work, always giving each other love and respect. The small house next to rice paddy fields and eucalyptus trees are now filled with happiness."

Mr. Nguyen Khoa Huy, from Thua Thien Hue province, who gained the most votes from Facebook users, said that he came to the contest by chance. "When my Facebook friend shared the theme and content of the photo contest, I was very excited. Then, I was presented a great moment when I visited a nephew's house, looking at the couple trying to feed their daughter. That image was the happiness of a family. I had nothing to to than hurried to take the camera to capture that moments in different views -it was my only reaction at that time ... After that, I opened the photos gallery and decided to choose the moment when the dad is feeding his daughter in front of the smiling mother. Before, Asian people believed that only wives should take care of the children, and men should only focus on more important works. But with this photo, I do hoped to prove that this traditional idea shall gradually be disappeared and the family work shall be equal ... That's why "All for daughter" is the title I choose to participate in this contest”.
In this contest, the first and second prize winners were selected by the professionals and photographers while the third prize winer was decided by the internet users through the Facebook page of the Embassy of Sweden. The first, second and third prize were awared in kind with the value of 10 million, 8 million and 7 million Vietnam dongs, respectively. The top three prizes’s photos together with nearly 20 most beautiful photos will continue to be exhibited at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum in Hanoi for one month until the end of July 2017.
